Thomas Hicks

The In Motion Animation Festival (Feb-March 2013) at Peacock Visual Arts in Aberdeen featured a collection of work by the award-winning artist, animator and music director, Thomas Hicks.

On display was a large assortment of Hicks’ weird and wonderful illustrations, paper mâché masks and scrapbooks, offering the viewer a fascinating insight into his artistic thought process.

Taking inspiration from “weird objects” and his personal “fascination with the functionality of mechanical, man-made pieces”, a quirky and idiosyncratic element to his work is created.

What made the exhibition particularly appealing was the continuous streaming of the artist’s filmography at the far end of the gallery space, ranging from music videos to animated theatre productions of ‘Orpheus and Eurydice’ and ‘The Brothers Karamazov’.
